The Bridge Trust Ltd publishes an annual trustees’ report and financial statements. Our report to 31 March 2017 has now been agreed and submitted to the Charity Commission. If accounts and trustees’ reports are your thing you can see it here.
Colin Medus says in his Chair’s Report
The last year for The Bridge Trust Ltd has seen us continue with many of our activities both in the UK and with our partners around the world. Our focus has again been on India and Zambia, supporting orphans, health care workers and local church leaders working with their local communities and churches. Dave and Rhi Day have also continued to support churches and leaders in Bristol, across the UK and internationally through teaching, preaching and mentoring. We are also grateful for those friends and partners, who at their own expense, have accompanied Dave on visits overseas and provided additional support.
Finance has remained a challenge for the trust, particularly in relation to our core costs. We have faced difficult choices regarding our on-going commitments. Nevertheless, the generosity of our supporters means we have seen a small increase in available funds over the last year. Given the long-term nature of our work we have prioritised the replenishment of our reserves. This will provide additional assurance for our commitments should there be further changes to our supporter base or a deterioration in the financial situation. Our income from regular donors has been supplemented by fund-raising events which have also provided the opportunity for friends and supporters to gather and celebrate the work of the trust and to interest new supporters.
Last year Helen Hill stepped down as the chair of the trustees. Helen had led the trustees since the establishment of the trust and we are grateful for all her hard work during that time. We will still benefit from her advice and experience as she remains a trustee. Since the end of the year, Gill Nowland has also stepped down as a trustee and we are grateful for the wisdom and experience she brought to our team.
The trustees have begun a review of the future of the trust. These discussions are at an early stage, but we recognise the need to consider our financial issues and long-term commitments and develop a clear plan for the future. This is a priority for the coming year.
Finally, I wish to thank my both my fellow trustees and Dave and Rhi Day for all their hard work. Their commitment to the trust and the work it does allows it to make a real difference to many people’s lives.
