Successful training in Zambia
Back in October 2019, we reported on two women, Javwa Mtine and Yuyo Kabaye, who were starting to train as heavy duty mechanics in the mining industry in Zambia. This was a way for them to earn a living and escape from poverty-driven sex work.
The good news is that they have now graduated with distinction from the training programme, and are now members of the Engineering Institute of Zambia. Javwa came top of the class and gave the vote of thanks at the graduation ceremony.

In her speech Javwa said
“..we have been transformed from rags to riches….I and my best friend Yuyo Kabaye were sex workers and you can see this great achievement. We are not shy to testify to the world what God has done for us. It is marvellous.”
Javwa and Yuyo are two of a group of 30 women from Solwezi who were forced into poverty-driven sex work. We have been privileged to support the Love Zambia UK Charity and Fomawoso Charity in Zambia to help them. Many of the women have trained as tailors, mechanics and bakers. They are now working and creating employment for their colleagues . We have a bursary fund for training. For £450 a year we can see more women train, qualify, and find employment giving them the ability and dignity to work for themselves, support their families and children’s education.
